Budget once you know what the room needs, which takes a visit and a tape measure. The main levers are the floor area, whether the suite keeps its position or the plumbing is rerouted, the sanitaryware and shower you choose, and whether the walls are tiled or panelled. A bathroom in a Carbrain or Abronhill terrace is a smaller job than a main bathroom with a feature shower in a Dullatur or Westerwood house. Pipework that has done its time, or a floor that has gone soft, adds to it. The quote comes free after the home visit and ties you to nothing, and finance is available from £22 a week, subject to status.
Allow 3 to 6 days for most Cumbernauld bathrooms. The designer explains which trade is in on which day before anything is removed, and the plan is kept. In a house with a single bathroom, which covers many G67 terraces, the toilet goes back into service at the end of every working day.
Yes. Cumbernauld was planned to keep walkers and traffic apart, so in Kildrum, Seafar, Carbrain and Abronhill many homes sit on footpaths with parking bays a short walk away. We look at the carry route during the design visit, arrange deliveries for when fitters are on site to receive them, protect your hall and stairs, and never leave materials on a shared path.
Not much, but it has to be surveyed properly. Houses stepped into the hillside in Seafar and parts of Kildrum can have the bathroom on a half landing, with pipes running in unexpected places. The designer traces the soil pipe and water feeds at the visit, so the new layout works with them and the quote reflects the real job.
It usually is. The bathrooms and en-suites that came with estate houses in Westerwood, Craigmarloch, Balloch and Carrickstone are often a basic white suite, a small shower enclosure and half-height tiling. With modern pipework already in place, a bigger shower, a vanity unit with drawers, full-height wall panels and a stronger extractor can normally go in without moving the main services.
The designer tests flow and pressure on the day of the visit. Some original new town houses in Carbrain and Kildrum still have a cold tank and a hot water cylinder, which gives a gentler flow, while most G68 estate homes run a combi boiler or an unvented cylinder. Your shower and valve are picked to match, and a pump is suggested only where it will help.
