Four-in-a-block flats are common on Kilmarnock's older council-built estates, and the upper flats have timber floors, so the designer checks the joists and the route to the waste pipe before recommending a tray. A low-profile tray with wall panels is the most common answer, and it keeps water well away from the neighbour below. We also agree working hours and keep the shared path and stair clear.

It depends on how the house is plumbed, and we check on the first visit. Plenty of older Kilmarnock homes still have a cold tank in the loft and a hot water cylinder, which gives a gentle flow that a pump or the right shower valve can improve. Newer houses, such as those in Southcraigs and Altonhill, are usually on mains pressure already. The designer tests the flow and recommends a shower that suits it, so you are not sold one that disappoints.

Some of the older terraced streets close to Kilmarnock town centre are narrow for a van, so we agree where it will stop for unloading and which door the old suite leaves by.
