It is arranged around the stair rather than in spite of it. Deliveries are brought in one drop so the close is not blocked twice, the common stair is sheeted from the door up, and the old suite goes straight down to the van rather than sitting on a landing. Your neighbours are told which days will be noisy, and the water is only off for as short a spell as the work allows.
