A designer comes to the house, measures the room, brings the samples and leaves you a quote. The appointment is free and there is no call-out fee.
It follows the room rather than a price list. A compact bathroom in a Blacklands or Pennyburn house that keeps the bath, basin and toilet on their existing runs is at the lower end of what we do. A larger room where the bath comes out, a walk-in shower goes in and the waste has to be moved sits a fair bit higher, and so does anything that needs the floor lifted. The suite, the screen and the wall finish decide the rest. The designer prices the room you want, free and with nothing owed either way. Finance is available from £22 a week, subject to status, and various deposit options are available.
It is the single most common change we make in KA13. The older council-built houses around Corsehill and Pennyburn have a short bathroom with the bath jammed along one wall, and swapping it for a walk-in shower the same length gives you floor to stand on and somewhere to put things. If there is a second toilet or a bath elsewhere in the house, nobody misses it. Where it is the only bath, the designer will say so and offer a shower-over-bath layout instead.
Not much, and they are told what to expect. In a four-in-a-block the waste and the water are shared with the flat above or below, so the supply is isolated for the shortest time we can manage and the neighbours are given the day and the hour beforehand. The common close and the stair get covered, the old suite is carried straight out to the van, and nothing is left sitting in the back court.
Three to six days on the great majority of Kilwinning jobs, from the morning the old bathroom is lifted out. A swap that keeps everything in place finishes early in that range. Shifting the soil pipe, taking up an old tiled floor or wiring in a new shower takes it to the far end. You are told what happens each day before we start, and if there is only the one toilet the work is sequenced so it goes back on every evening.
Not necessarily, and you will know either way before anything is ordered. A good number of houses around here still run hot water from a cylinder with a tank in the loft, which is why the shower can feel weak upstairs. Sometimes the answer is a pump, sometimes an unvented cylinder, and sometimes the system is fine and only the shower valve is the problem. The designer checks the flow at the visit and explains what yours actually needs.
Frequently, yes. A downstairs cloakroom in one of the newer Whitehirst Park or Nethermains houses is often wide enough for a compact shower once the basin is changed for a slimmer one. What we check is where the waste can run, whether the floor construction will take a tray and whether there is somewhere sensible to put an extractor. All three are settled at the survey rather than on the first morning.

There are full bathroom displays built out, free parking at the unit and someone there to talk it through, 10am to 5pm every day of the week. If the trip does not suit, the samples come to you instead.
