No, and hardly any of our East Lothian customers do. Everything is chosen at home: wall boards, tile samples, tap finishes and suite options laid out in the room they are destined for, the bathroom measured properly while the designer is with you, and the layout worked through together. A clear quote follows, free and with nothing owed either way.
It comes to what your room comes to. Floor area sets the tiling, the flooring and the labour. Leaving the suite on its existing pipe runs is cheaper than moving it, and the sanitaryware, the screen and the wall finish decide most of the rest. A shower room carved out of an upstairs flat on the High Street is a smaller job than a full main bathroom in a villa with a freestanding bath and a separate walk-in shower. Old lead or iron pipe found under the boards is allowed for once we have seen it. The visit and the quote cost nothing at all, and finance is available from £22 a week, subject to status.
3 to 6 days covers nearly every North Berwick bathroom. A swap that keeps everything on the same spot takes the least. Moving the soil pipe, replacing a century-old timber floor or rewiring for a shower takes it to the longer end. You are told the order of work for each day beforehand, and on a one-bathroom house the toilet is put back into use overnight wherever it can be.

The floor is checked and made firm before a tray goes down, cornices and skirtings are left alone, and a taller heated rail earns its keep in a room that size.
It changes the details rather than the design. Air off the Forth carries salt, and it finds cheap plating on taps, shower valves and towel rails before long. Solid brass bodies with a proper chrome or brushed finish hold up far better, and stainless fixings do the same job on screens and rails. A humidity-sensing extractor also matters more here than inland, because windows on the seaward side tend to stay shut in bad weather.
