The build on site is 3 to 7 working days for a typical roof. The bulk of the timescale is the manufacture beforehand, so four to six weeks from order to handover is normal. Each evening the roof is closed up and made weather-tight before anyone leaves.

A building warrant is normally needed in Scotland when a conservatory roof is converted to a solid one, and we prepare and lodge that with East Dunbartonshire Council, then hand you the completion certificate once the work is signed off. Planning permission is rarely an issue for a straight roof replacement, and where a property sits in a conservation area we check the position before anything is ordered.

Most of a conservatory's heat escapes upwards, so yes. An insulated solid roof reaches a U-value below 0.18 W/m²K, the same sort of figure as a modern extension roof, and with a radiator fitted the room holds its warmth through a Campsie frost rather than losing it by teatime.
You do not have to. A glass roof in modern solar-control, self-cleaning glazing keeps the sky and the treeline and still takes the heat out of a July afternoon. A hybrid gives you an insulated deck with a lantern or glazed panels set into it, so the warmth is there and the light comes down where you want it.
Considerably. A sealed glass unit is heavy and rigid, so it does not flex and clatter the way a polycarbonate sheet does. If silence is the priority, though, a tiled or solid insulated roof is the quietest of the four by some way.
