For that you get the old roof removed, any reinforcement, the new roof system, a plasterboard ceiling, LED lighting and decoration. An unusually large lean-to or Edwardian roof can be £18,000 or more. There is no charge for the survey, and the clear quote you receive afterwards does not commit you. Various deposit options are available.
The fitting is normally 3 to 7 working days. The roof is replaced section by section and closed up before the fitters finish for the day, so the room is never open to a wet Lanarkshire night. The rest of the house carries on as usual while the work is done.
Our Glasgow showroom is the nearer one. It is inside Dobbies Garden Centre at Braehead, 75 Kings Inch Drive, Renfrew, G51 4FB, and opens 10am to 5pm seven days a week. We will be upfront: roofing is not part of the display, so you will not see a conservatory roof built there. It is a comfortable spot to meet the team, bring a few photos and have the four roof types explained. The roof samples come out to your house with the surveyor.
Usually a building warrant is needed, because in Scotland changing a glazed conservatory roof to a solid one normally requires it. We send the application to North Lanarkshire Council and pass the completion certificate to you when the job has been signed off. Planning permission is rarely an issue for a like-for-like swap. If your property is listed or sits in a conservation area, we look into it and apply where we must.
There is a good chance it will. Tiled and solid roofs today are built light, and around nine conservatories in ten accept one with no structural changes. We do not guess: the load calculation is confirmed at the survey. Reinforcement, where it is needed, is explained and included in your quote. If the frame cannot take a solid roof, you will hear that from us along with a glass or hybrid alternative.
It will be less bright than glass, which is why we offer two other routes. A glass roof in self-cleaning, solar-control glass keeps the light and deals with the temperature. A hybrid roof is solid and insulated with glazed panels or a lantern set into it, so you decide where the daylight comes in. With a plastered white ceiling and LED downlights, a fully solid roof is brighter than most people expect.
Yes. A solid insulated roof gets the U-value below 0.18 W/m²K, on a par with the roof of a modern extension. Add a radiator, keep the glazed walls you have, and the conservatory works as a living room all year. Every roof we fit, glass included, is insulated to modern U-values.
It does. The racket is thin polycarbonate vibrating under the rain. A tiled or solid roof absorbs it, and a modern glass roof is far quieter too. The warm inner surface of an insulated roof also stops condensation collecting and dripping onto the floor and furniture.
