It depends on the width of the opening and so the panel count, on aluminium against uPVC, and on the glass. Widening an opening or forming a new one adds to it, and that gets priced by us rather than left to a separate builder. The survey is free and the quote obliges you to nothing. Usually it can. It needs a lintel sized for the span and proper support while the work goes on, and the surveyor will check what sits above before agreeing a width. The structural work and the doors sit in one contract so there is nothing to co-ordinate between trades.

Panels normally sit between about 600mm and 1000mm wide, so a three metre opening usually lands on three or four. The surveyor measures the real structural opening, then works through the stacking direction and the best position for the traffic door.

Not with the specification we use. The aluminium sets are thermally broken, so there is an insulating barrier through the frame rather than a direct metal path, and the glass is energy rated with a warm-edge spacer. uPVC is a shade warmer again and costs less.

It can where the levels and the drainage allow it, and it looks far better when paving runs straight out from the room. The drainage has to be resolved at survey stage. If it cannot be done properly, a low weathered upstand is the right answer and we will say so.

One to two days for the doors themselves. Where an opening is being formed, the structural days are added on top and the surveyor runs through the sequence in advance so you know how long the wall is open.

Not when the hardware is right. Multipoint locking on the traffic door, shootbolts from the folding panels into head and cill, and laminated glass if you want more. Worth mentioning at the survey if the doors are hidden from the road.

Aluminium gives the slimmest frames, the broadest colour choice and more glass per panel. uPVC costs less and insulates marginally better. On a modest opening the sightline gap matters less than people assume.
