What should we budget for a composite door?

We are close to the beach. Will salt spray damage it?
It will not. The outer skin is moulded GRP with the colour running through it rather than painted on, so salt cannot lift a film of paint off it, and the hardware specified for coastal jobs is finished for that kind of exposure. A wash with warm soapy water now and then is the whole of the maintenance.
The door faces straight into the east wind. Will rain get past it?
It should not. The frame carries weather seals all the way round and the multi-point lock pulls the door tight onto them at several points at once, which is what stops driven rain finding a way in. The surveyor looks at how exposed the doorway is and specifies the threshold to match.
How does it compare on security with our old one?
Considerably more so. The core is solid rather than hollow, the locking is multi-point with hooks and bolts, the cylinder is 3-star Kitemarked and anti-snap, and glazed panels are laminated. The whole door is tested to PAS 24, the standard insurers look for.
Can you do a bungalow that has a porch in front?
Yes. Plenty of the bungalows along Links Parade and around Carlogie have a porch or a storm door ahead of the main one, and either can be replaced, together or separately. The surveyor measures both and prices them so you can see what each would come to.
How much of the day does it take?
A composite door is fitted in a day. The old door and frame come out, the new frame is set and sealed, the door is hung and the hardware and glass go on, then you are walked through the locking. The old door leaves in the van.
Which colours can we have?
More than 200 colour and glass combinations to choose from. Cream, anthracite grey, black, chartwell green and duck egg blue go out most often, woodgrain finishes give a timber look without the upkeep, and the inside face can be a different shade from the outside. Handle finishes run from chrome and gold to black and antique.
Do you cover the villages around the town?
Yes. Barry, Muirdrum, Panbride, Newton, East Haven, Ardestie and Downie are all covered, along with Monifieth, Barnhill and Arbroath. Surveys are free in every one of them.
