It should not. Weather seals run right round the frame and the multi-point lock pulls the door onto them at several points at once, which is what keeps driven rain out. On a badly exposed doorway the surveyor specifies a different threshold to suit.

Yes. Openings on the newer streets are square and modern, so the changeover is quick, and a composite door is a clear improvement on the panel most new houses come with. Worth checking first whether the development has any conditions about the frontage.
