Front Doors For Fife's City

Composite doors for Dunfermline, from the Abbey end out to Duloch.

Ultimate Home Solutions designs, supplies and fits new composite doors across Dunfermline, KY11 and KY12, a city where the housing stock is about as mixed as it gets in Fife. There are grey sandstone terraces in the streets around the Abbey and Pittencrieff Park, post-war semis at Abbeyview, Touch and Bellyeoman, and thousands of newer houses out at Duloch, Masterton and Pitcorthie. All of them face the same westerly weather coming over the Forth. A composite door meets it with a solid core, around 44mm thick, behind a moulded skin with the colour running through it, so there is nothing to strip back and repaint. A surveyor travels to you with the samples, trusted installers fit the door in a day, and all workmanship is guaranteed.

Why Composite

A timber door that has never once needed painting.

Wind comes up off the Forth and over Dunfermline all winter, and a painted door on that side of a house rarely holds its finish for long. Composite is assembled so the weather has nothing to get hold of. These are the parts involved.

Solid Core, Not Hollow

A 44mm solid laminated timber core, not a hollow shell filled with foam. It shuts with a thud, not a rattle.

“From old to gold standard windows in no time.”

Having recently had our bathroom fitted by UHS, we were blown away by the quality and service so it was an easy decision to have UHS replace two of our windows. From the initial consultation through to booking the installation and the installation itself, it was a smooth process and everyone was super friendly and helpful. The fitters were efficient and were done in no time, taking time to clean up and make sure we...

How Your Door Arrives

Four stages, and only the third needs the installers.

1
Step 1

We Measure Up At Home

A surveyor comes out free of charge, measures the opening and the sill, and brings colour, glass and hardware samples so you can choose at your own front door.

2
Step 2

A Clear Quote To Consider

A free, no-obligation quote follows, showing the door style, colour, glass and locks you chose. Take as long as you like over it.

3
Step 3

One Day To Fit

Most composite doors go in within a single working day. The old door and frame are removed, the new set is fitted, sealed and locked, and the waste leaves with the installers.

4
Step 4

Keys In Your Hand

You are shown the locks, then given the keys, the installation certificate and care notes, and we check in with you a few weeks later. All workmanship is guaranteed.

FAQ

Dunfermline composite door questions, answered plainly.

Travel, cost, the Abbey conservation area, sandstone terraces, new estates, security, colours and the fitting day.

Not what you were after?

Call and a real person picks up, somebody who arranges door surveys every day. The lines are open seven days and messages rarely sit longer than an hour.

Call 0800 029 3875
Do you come over to Dunfermline, and is there a charge for the trip?

We do, and there is nothing to pay for it. A surveyor covers the whole city and the villages round it with samples in the car. There is no call-out fee, no mileage added and no obligation once the quote is with you.

What will a composite door cost us?

Most come to between £950 and £2,200 fitted, with the old door removed, taken away and the work certified. Where yours sits depends on the colour, the glass, the hardware finish and whether there are side panels. Various deposit options are available.

We live in the conservation area near the Abbey. Are there rules about the door?

There can be. The older streets around the Abbey, Maygate and Pittencrieff Park sit inside a conservation area and a number of the buildings are listed, so a street-facing door may be expected to keep its original look. Check with Fife Council planning before you order. The surveyor will say plainly if a composite door is unlikely to be accepted, and the Heritage designs are there for period frontages where it is.

Our terrace is grey sandstone with a tall doorway. Will one fit?

Yes. Tall openings, fanlights and narrow side panels are all normal in the older parts of town, and every frame is made to the figures taken on the survey. Fanlights and side panels can be renewed at the same time so the whole entrance matches.

Can you replace a builder's door out at Duloch or Masterton?

Easily. Openings on the newer estates are square and modern, which makes the changeover quick, and a composite door is a noticeable step up from the panel most new houses are given. If your street is still factored, check whether anything is specified about the frontage first.

Is it more secure than the door we have?

Every door is tested to PAS 24, the British standard for resisting forced entry. The core is solid instead of hollow, the lock puts hooks and bolts into the frame at several points, the cylinder is 3-star Kitemarked and anti-snap, and glazing is laminated.

Will the weather off the Forth affect it?

No. The skin is moulded GRP, so it takes in no water and cannot swell, stick or warp, and the colour goes through it rather than sitting on top, so it will not need repainting. The insulated core is six times more insulating than timber.

What is the colour choice?

The choice runs past 200 colour and glass pairings. Anthracite grey, black, cream, chartwell green and duck egg blue are ordered most, woodgrain finishes suit older frontages, and the inside face can differ from the outside. Hardware finishes include chrome, gold, matt black and antique.

How long does the work at the house take?

A day. The old door and frame come out, the new frame is set and sealed, the door is hung, the glass and hardware are fitted and the locking is explained before they leave. The old door goes with them.

Is finance an option for us?

Yes. We offer Buy Now Pay 12 Months Later, flexible credit up to 24 months, and longer-term flexible credit up to 10 years. The initial eligibility check is a soft search with no impact on your credit score, and gives an instant decision. Ultimate Home Solutions is authorised by the FCA as a credit broker (not a lender).

Which parts of Fife do you reach?

All of KY11 and KY12, covering the city centre, Abbeyview, Touch, Brucefield, Garvock Hill, Bellyeoman, Baldridgeburn, Milesmark, Parkneuk, Wellwood, Duloch, Masterton, Pitcorthie, Pitreavie and Halbeath, along with Townhill, Kingseat, Crossford, Cairneyhill, Limekilns, Charlestown and Crossgates. Surveys are free in every one and travel costs you nothing.
