Better than anything timber. The outer skin is moulded and absorbs no water at all, so there is nothing to swell, blister or rot. The frame carries weather seals and the multi-point lock draws the door onto them along its full height, which is the part that keeps driven rain from working its way past.

Very little. The colour is moulded through the skin rather than painted on top, so salt has no paint film to attack, and coastal hardware finishes are specified where the exposure calls for it. Warm soapy water two or three times a year keeps it looking as it did on day one.

Not for a composite door. On the higher streets at Braeside, Whinhill and Branchton a front door takes the wind head on, so the surveyor notes the exposure and specifies the threshold and seals to suit it. The door itself is heavy enough not to flex in a gust the way a light hollow panel can.
