Yes. The larger houses on the Silvertonhill and Bothwell Road side often have a full entrance screen rather than a single door, and the whole set can be made as one: door, glazed side panels and the fanlight above. Heritage composite designs suit that kind of frontage, and the surveyor measures the entire opening rather than just the leaf.

It is your call. A good few Hamilton houses in Burnbank and Hillhouse kept their outer storm door, and it can be replaced along with the inner one, left as it is, or taken away if you would rather have a single well sealed door. The surveyor prices whichever you prefer.

For a front door most people think so. Composite has a solid insulated core where a uPVC door is hollow-chambered, so it is heavier, warmer and harder to force, and the colour and style choice is far wider. uPVC still makes sense for a back door, and we fit both, so ask for the two prices at the survey.

Every door we fit is tested to PAS 24, with a multi-point mechanism throwing hooks and bolts into the frame and a 3-star Kitemarked anti-snap cylinder as standard. Any glazed panel is laminated, so it holds together rather than breaking out.

Almost none. There is no paint or stain to renew because the colour is part of the skin, and the skin will not warp, crack or fade. A wipe with warm soapy water and a drop of oil on the hinges now and then is the whole of it.

Over 200 colour and glass combinations, from anthracite grey and black to cream, chartwell green and duck egg blue, along with woodgrain finishes that read as timber from the pavement. The inside can be a different colour from the outside and the hardware comes in chrome, gold, matt black or antique.

A single working day covers it. Old door and frame out, new frame in and sealed, door hung, glass and hardware fitted, locking explained, waste away in the van.

You can. Our Glasgow showroom sits inside Dobbies Garden Centre at Braehead, 75 Kings Inch Drive, Renfrew, G51 4FB, open 10am to 5pm seven days, and there is a second showroom in Kilmarnock. The surveyor brings samples to the house either way.
