Every composite door and frame is made to the surveyor's measurements, so it is built for the opening you have. For a period frontage, ask to see the Heritage composite range too.

Yes. Houses and cottage flats in Shortlees, Bellfield and Onthank are straightforward. If the home is rented from the council or a housing association you will need the landlord's permission first. If you own it, the choice of door is yours.

Three things. The core is solid, so it is far harder to get through than a hollow panel. The lock engages hooks and bolts at several points along the frame and is driven by a 3-star Kitemarked anti-snap cylinder. And any glass in the door is laminated security glazing. The whole door is tested to PAS 24, the British standard for forced entry.

It should. The insulated core is six times more insulating than timber, with U-values from 1.0, and the new frame is sealed all round, so the draught from under and around an old door goes.

There are more than 200 colour and glass combinations, from heritage shades and modern greys to woodgrain finishes, with decorative and leaded glass if you like it. The inside can be a different colour from the outside, and the hardware comes in chrome, gold, black or antique.

Trusted installers come first thing, remove the old door and its frame, and set the new frame and door in place. Glass and hardware go on, everything is sealed, and you are shown how the locks work. Most doors are finished before teatime, and the old door goes away in the van.
