Front Doors For Argyll

Composite doors for Oban homes, from the Esplanade to Glenshellach.

Ultimate Home Solutions supplies and fits new composite doors across Oban and the PA34 area, where a west-facing front door takes more rain in a year than most of Scotland manages. The Victorian terraces along Corran Esplanade, the houses climbing Glencruitten and the newer streets at Glenshellach and Dunbeg all share the same trouble: timber that swells shut and paint that never quite lasts a winter. A composite door answers it with a solid core around 44mm thick behind a moulded skin that water simply runs off. A surveyor brings the colours and glass designs to you, trusted installers hang the door in a day, and all workmanship is guaranteed.

Why Composite

A timber door that has never once needed painting.

Oban gets its rain by the metre, with wind off the Sound of Mull behind it. A painted timber door lasts a couple of winters before it begins to swell and peel. Composite is assembled so that water has nowhere to go. These are the layers involved.

Solid Core, Not Hollow

A 44mm solid laminated timber core, not a hollow shell filled with foam. It shuts with a thud, not a rattle.

I was very well impressed from stat to finish with ultimate home solutions. I had Henry the sales for the double glazing and his advice was second to none and thank goodness for my windows look beautiful. The company that installed them were very professional and very clean workers. I would highly recommend this company and will use them in future for any further projects.

FAQ

Composite door questions from Oban and Lorn.

Travel, cost, rain and wind, Victorian villas, steps up from the road, security, colours, the fitting day, the villages and monthly payments.

Not what you were after?

Ring us and a person answers, one who sets up door surveys day in day out. Seven days a week, and most messages are returned within the hour.

Do you actually come out to Oban, and is there a charge?

We do, regularly, and there is nothing to pay for the journey. Surveys cover Oban, Dunbeg, Connel, Benderloch and the villages around them, with no call-out fee. The quote that follows is free and ties you to nothing.

What is a composite door likely to cost?

Most come in at £950 to £2,200 fitted, which includes taking the old door out, disposing of it and the certification. Colour, glass, hardware and side panels decide where inside that yours falls. Various deposit options are available.

We get a lot of rain here. Will the door cope?

That is what it is built for. The outer skin is moulded GRP, so it absorbs nothing and cannot swell, and the frame carries weather seals that the multi-point lock pulls the door onto all the way up. There is no paint to blister and no bare timber to soak.

Our house looks straight out over the bay. Is wind a problem?

Not for the door. Exposure is looked at during the survey, and on a badly exposed doorway the threshold and the seals are specified accordingly. A composite door is heavy enough that it does not flex in a gust the way a light hollow panel can.

Can a composite door go into a Victorian villa opening?

Yes. The villas on Corran Esplanade, Dunollie Road and Ardconnel have tall openings, often with a fanlight above, and every frame is made to the figures the surveyor takes. Fanlights and side panels can be renewed at the same time, and the Heritage composite designs suit houses of that age.

Our house is up steps from the road. Does that complicate the fit?

It is worth mentioning, though it rarely stops anything. A fair number of homes on Glencruitten Road, Rockfield and the lanes climbing above George Street are reached by steps or a narrow path, so access and parking are noted alongside the measurements and the installers turn up knowing what they are carrying up.

How secure are they?

Every door is tested to PAS 24. The core is solid rather than hollow, the lock throws hooks and bolts into the frame at several points, the cylinder is 3-star Kitemarked and anti-snap, and any glass is laminated.

How wide is the colour choice?

The choice runs to more than 200 colour and glass combinations. Anthracite grey, black, cream, chartwell green and duck egg blue are ordered most, woodgrain finishes look like timber without behaving like it, and the inside can differ from the outside. Hardware is offered in chrome, gold, matt black or antique.

And how long is the fitting itself?

A new door goes in inside one day. The old door and frame are removed, the new frame is set and sealed, the door is hung, the glass and hardware go on and the locking is explained to you. Nothing is left open overnight.

Is there a way to pay it off gradually?

Yes. We offer Buy Now Pay 12 Months Later, flexible credit up to 24 months, and longer-term flexible credit up to 10 years. The initial eligibility check is a soft search with no impact on your credit score, and gives an instant decision. Ultimate Home Solutions is authorised by the FCA as a credit broker (not a lender).

How far out from Oban do you go?

Across PA34 and the places around it: the town centre, Corran Esplanade, Dunollie, Ganavan, Longsdale, Glencruitten, Soroba, Lochavullin, Glenshellach, Pulpit Hill, Gallanach and Lerags, then Dunbeg, Connel, North Connel, Benderloch, Ledaig, Barcaldine, Kilmore, Kilninver, Taynuilt and Appin.
