Solid Core, Not Hollow
A 44mm solid laminated timber core, not a hollow shell filled with foam. It shuts with a thud, not a rattle.
44mm solid core

Ultimate Home Solutions supplies and fits new composite doors across Penicuik and the EH26 villages, bringing the colours and glass designs to your own table at no charge. Penicuik sits high on the edge of the Pentlands, a good deal higher than Edinburgh, and it gets the wind and the sleet before the city does. The old mill terraces down by the North Esk at Valleyfield and Bridge Street have deep, narrow openings, the postwar streets at Mauricewood, Deanburn and Cornbank have thousands of doors that are now decades old, and the houses looking out towards the hills take the weather square on. A composite door is built for that: a solid core around 44mm thick, a moulded skin that water runs off, and a frame made to your own opening. Trusted installers fit it in a day and all workmanship is guaranteed.
Height matters with a front door. Penicuik sits well above the Forth valley, so it gets frost earlier, wind harder and sleet that Edinburgh never sees. Timber moves with all of it and hollow panels give up. Composite does neither, and this is the build.

The online designer is for our Palladio range, the premium end of what we fit. It does not cover the other door ranges on this page. Choose a style, try it in every colour, compare the glass patterns and set the handle, the letterplate and the knocker.

Most composite doors go in within a single working day. The old door and frame are removed, the new set is fitted, sealed and locked, and the waste leaves with the installers.
You are shown the locks, then given the keys, the installation certificate and care notes, and we check in with you a few weeks later. All workmanship is guaranteed.

Most composite front doors are £950 to £2,200 fitted, which covers taking out the old door, removing it and the certification. Colour, glass, hardware and side panels decide where inside that band yours sits. Various deposit options are available.
It matters to a timber door, which swells and sticks, and to a hollow one, which bows. It does not matter to composite. The skin is moulded and takes on no water, the frame carries weather seals, and the multi-point lock draws the door onto them the whole way up.
Yes. Those terraces have narrow, deep openings and stone sills that no catalogue size would suit, which is exactly why the frame is built from the surveyor's own measurements. Older frontages also tend to look better with a Heritage design or a woodgrain finish than a flat modern colour.
Usually it is. Doors from that era were built before anyone thought much about heat loss or lock ratings, and after decades of Pentland weather the fit has normally gone. The surveyor will say plainly if yours has life left in it.
It should. The core is insulated right through, a composite door is six times more insulating than timber, and the seals close the gap that lets cold air run in under an old door. The hall is normally where people notice it first.
Every door we fit carries PAS 24 testing, the British standard for resisting forced entry. The core is solid rather than hollow, the locking throws hooks and bolts into the frame at several points, the cylinder is 3-star Kitemarked and anti-snap, and glazing is laminated.
Upwards of 200 colour and glass pairings are on offer. Greys and blacks suit the newer streets, heritage greens, blues and creams sit better on stone, and the woodgrain finishes pass for painted timber. Inside and outside colours can differ, and hardware is offered in chrome, gold, matt black or antique.
It is one working day. The installers take out the old door and frame in the morning, set and seal the new frame, hang the door, fit the glass and hardware, and show you the locking before they leave. The old door goes away with them.
