Yes, and a fair number of ours do. In a Stobswell or Hilltown flat the boiler usually sits in a kitchen press, and a modern combi is smaller than what it replaces. What the engineer checks at the survey is the flue route through the wall and where the condensate can drain, because those two things decide where the boiler can go. If the building is listed or in a conservation area we look into consent for an external flue before anything is ordered.

If the building has a gas supply, usually yes. Storage heaters take their charge overnight and are often spent by the evening, which is when most people want the heat. Moving to a gas combi means a boiler, radiators and pipework, so it is a bigger job than a swap and takes longer, and the engineer explains the work and the timescale while they are with you.

One working day for a straight combi swap, and the system is back on before the engineer leaves. Changing an older setup with a cylinder and loft tanks over to a combi takes 2 to 3 days, and a full system replacement 2 to 4 days. From signing off the quote to handover, 3 to 5 weeks is normal.

Greenstar is Quietmark accredited, which is worth having in a flat where the boiler is close to the living room. ecoTEC from Vaillant is German-engineered and is often the choice on a full system job. It depends on the building rather than the postcode. Heat pumps do their best work in a well-insulated house with radiators sized for lower water temperatures, and less well in a draughty older property with small radiators. A newer house out towards Invergowrie can be a good candidate, while a high-ceilinged tenement flat may be better on gas for now. The engineer carries out a heat loss survey and gives you an honest answer, and we confirm any grant funding that applies to your address.
