If the old one went in before 2010, very likely. Boilers of that age run at around 65 to 75% efficiency, while a modern A-rated condensing boiler reaches 92 to 95%. In a draughty top-floor flat or a stone-built terrace, where the heating is on for much of the year, burning less gas for the same warmth soon shows on the bill.
