Around 300% Efficient
For each unit of electricity it draws, it delivers roughly three of heat. No boiler can beat one hundred percent.

[ Hero, air source heat pump unit installed at a Scottish home ]

[ Service intro, MCS-certified engineer conducting a heat-loss survey ]
Air source heat pumps extract heat from outside air (even at -15°C) and deliver it to your radiators, underfloor heating, or hot water cylinder. For every 1kW of electricity used, a heat pump delivers 3 to 4kW of heat. That means you get three to four times more energy out than you put in.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) gives Scottish homeowners £7,500 off the installed cost. Ultimate Home Solutions is MCS-certified (required for the grant) and installs Vaillant Arotherm, Mitsubishi Ecodan, and Daikin systems. Every system is sized using a full heat-loss survey, not a guess. A hybrid heat pump option is also available, keeping your existing gas boiler for peak demand days. Noise levels sit quieter than a fridge at 3 metres, and most existing radiators are compatible (though some may need upsizing for optimal low-flow temperatures).
An air source heat pump moves heat rather than making it, which is why it delivers around three times more energy than it consumes. It works in Scottish winters, and there is grant money on the table to fit one.

Grant handledModern units extract heat well below freezing. Scotland is not too cold for a correctly specified heat pump.
Rated to -20CA room-by-room heat loss calculation decides the unit and which radiators change. Guesswork is why some installs disappoint.

Call 0800 029 3875Most domestic air source heat pump installations cost between £8,000 and £14,000 before the grant. With the £7,500 BUS grant deducted, the net cost to you is typically £500 to £6,500. Every quote is clear, free, and yours to keep with no obligation.
Yes. Modern air source heat pumps operate efficiently down to -15°C and below. Scotland's average winter temperature sits well within that range. The Vaillant Arotherm and Mitsubishi Ecodan models we install are specifically tested in northern European climates.
Not always. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than gas boilers, so some radiators may need upsizing to deliver the same warmth. Our heat-loss survey identifies exactly which radiators (if any) need swapping. Many homes need none replaced at all.
Modern units are remarkably quiet. At 3 metres, a Vaillant Arotherm produces around 38 to 42 dB, roughly equivalent to a domestic fridge. Planning rules require the unit to meet noise limits at the nearest neighbour's window, and we factor this into placement during the survey.
Yes. A hybrid heat pump pairs an air source unit with your existing gas boiler. The heat pump handles most of the year, and the gas boiler kicks in during extreme cold snaps or peak demand. It is a practical stepping stone to full decarbonisation without replacing your entire heating system at once.
