You get an honest answer either way. The surveyor checks the slates or tiles, the felt, the battens, the timbers and the flashings, and takes photographs so you can see what they saw. If a repair will do the job we quote for the repair. A full re-roof only makes sense once the felt, the battens or most of the covering have reached the end of their life.

Usually concrete tile. It is the best value for a full re-roof and comes in enough profiles and colours to sit comfortably beside the neighbours, whether that is a row of bungalows in Giffnock or King's Park or a terrace in Pollok or Castlemilk. Clay tile is there for homes that had it originally, and slate is always an option if the budget allows.

Yes. Flat and low-pitch sections over extensions, dormers, porches and garages are re-covered in GRP fibreglass, EPDM rubber or built-up bitumen, all fully sealed systems. Plenty of Glasgow customers have the dormer or the back extension done while the scaffold is up for the main roof, which saves paying for access twice.

It is the cheapest moment to do it, because the roof is already open. Many older Glasgow homes still have about 100mm of loft insulation where current regulations ask for 270mm.
