“Very good job done on our home.”
Very good job done on our home. Exterior wall coating by Properla applied by excellent applicators. Can strongly recommend on every aspect.

Ultimate Home Solutions supplies and fits new exterior wall coatings across Edinburgh, beginning with a free survey at your home and a clear quote. Beyond the stone of the city centre, Edinburgh is a city of harl: the interwar bungalows of Corstorphine, Blackhall and Craigentinny, the harled semis of Liberton and Clermiston, and the rendered gables that face the wind off the Forth in Trinity and Portobello. Haar, driving rain and winter frost all find their way into tired harling. Our surveyor inspects each wall, and vetted applicators wash, repair and coat it so the rain stays on the outside.
Edinburgh's weather comes from the east: haar off the Forth, wind-driven rain and sharp frosts. Paint seals that moisture into harling, and the frost does the rest. A breathable coating such as ProPerla keeps rain out while the wall dries naturally, which suits a Blackhall bungalow as well as a gable end in Leith.
[ Breathable, not sealed ]The coating lets water vapour escape from inside the wall, so trapped damp dries out instead of blowing the render off. Microporous, just like the wall wants to be.
[ Hydrophobic finish ]Rain beads up and runs straight off rather than soaking in. A dry wall is a warmer wall, and it stops the freeze-thaw cracking that wrecks Scottish render.
[ A warmer home ]A wet wall loses far more heat than a dry one. Keeping rainwater out of the masonry cuts heat loss through the walls and helps take the edge off your energy bills.
[ Self-cleaning ]Dirt, algae and the green film that creeps up north-facing walls can't grip the surface, so the rain washes them away. The wall stays looking freshly done for years.
[ Any colour, fade-resistant ]Choose from the full RAL range. The pigment is locked into the coating so it holds its colour through UV and weathering, and all workmanship is guaranteed.
[ Surfaces we coat ]Pebbledash, roughcast, smooth and textured render, brick and stone. We power-wash, repair cracks and re-point first, so the coating goes onto a sound surface.

Call 0800 029 3875Yes, we work across the city, and no, there is no charge. A surveyor visits your home anywhere from Cramond and Corstorphine to Portobello and Gilmerton, with no travel charge and no call-out fee. The quote is free as well, and it is your decision whether to take things further.
Full-house coatings mostly fall between £3,500 and £8,500 applied. That figure takes in scaffolding, power-washing, wall repairs, primer, base coat and top coat. A larger detached house can reach £14,000 or more. After the free survey you receive a clear quote with no obligation. Various deposit options are available.
Ask the council before you do anything. Edinburgh has a large number of conservation areas and listed buildings, and the Old and New Towns are a World Heritage Site, so changes to the outside of a building are looked at closely. Contact the City of Edinburgh Council planning team first. We can give you the product information for your enquiry, and if a coating is not right for the building we will say so at the survey.
Stone is one of the surfaces we coat, along with pebbledash, roughcast, render and brick. With a traditional sandstone frontage the first question is whether it should be coated at all, and whether planning rules allow it. The surveyor looks at the stone, talks through the options honestly, and many customers choose to coat only the harled or rendered walls at the side and back.
Yes. The coating is hydrophobic, so moisture beads and runs off instead of soaking in, and it protects against rain, salt, freeze-thaw and grime. Because the wall stays dry, frost has far less water to work on, which is what causes harling to crack and lift.
For most homes, 3 to 7 working days, weather permitting. Day one is the power-wash and the repairs. Primer, base coat and top coat follow, and the work is sealed each night so a wet spell does not undo it.
Gables take the worst of the weather, so rain coming through the wall is a common cause, and a hydrophobic coating typically cures that kind of penetrating damp. Rising damp and condensation need other measures, and a coating only helps alongside them. The surveyor identifies which you have before suggesting any work.
You can choose any RAL colour. Samples come with the surveyor, and a small test area can be applied to your own wall on request, so you see the shade in Edinburgh light before you decide. The pigment is locked into the coating and is fade-resistant.
