New units help a great deal. Condensation forms when warm damp air touches a cold surface, and the inner pane of a modern unit with a warm-edge spacer stays far warmer than old glass does. Trickle vents are fitted where the regulations call for them, which lets the moisture from cooking, showers and drying washing get out of the house rather than settling on the glass.

Each frame is built to your own sizes, so allow somewhere around 5 to 7 weeks from the day the order is signed off. Fitting day itself is short. Most houses in the town are finished in 1 to 3 working days, and the house is closed up and weather-tight before the fitters leave each evening.
