In many cases they can, but check before you order. Old Aberdeen, Footdee and Ferryhill are among the city's conservation areas, and a good number of granite buildings are listed, so Aberdeen City Council may want to approve the style and material first. Our sliding sash and flush casement windows are designed for character homes, and we can supply the product details a planning application asks for.
That is what they are made for. Every unit has a Low-E coating, argon gas between the panes and a warm-edge spacer, and the frames are sealed and weather-tested when they are fitted. uPVC does not rot or need repainting in salt air. For an exposed gable in Cove Bay, Torry or Bridge of Don the surveyor may suggest triple glazing, and will say honestly if the room does not need it.
Yes. New double glazing on its own is much quieter than old units with failed seals. For homes under the helicopter and airport routes around Dyce and Bucksburn, or along busy roads such as Anderson Drive, King Street and Great Northern Road, we can fit acoustic glass, which uses thicker laminated panes to cut the sound that reaches the room.
Every window is made to measure, so allow around 5 to 7 weeks between approving the order and handover. Fitting is the short part: most homes take 1 to 3 working days. Rooms are dust-sheeted, the old frames are taken away, and the house is left wind and watertight at the end of each day.

They tilt inwards for ventilation and swing fully open into the room, so both sides of the glass can be cleaned from inside, which matters on the second or third floor of a granite tenement. Fitters work from inside wherever the opening allows, so scaffolding is avoided where possible.
