A designer comes out, measures up and leaves you a quote, with nothing charged for the trip and nothing to pay for the visit.
It moves with the room. A bathroom in a Whitelees semi that keeps its layout sits at the lower end of what we fit. A Hyndford Road villa where the bath comes out, a walk-in shower goes in and the plumbing shifts sits a good deal higher, and so does a farm cottage where the floor has to come up. Lifting old boards in a stone-built house sometimes turns up pipework that has had its day, and we say so before anything is ordered rather than after. The designer prices the room you actually want, free and with no obligation. Finance starts at £22 a week, subject to status, and various deposit options are available.
Rarely, once you are past the front door. Bathroom work is usually internal and does not touch what the conservation area protects, which is the outside of the building and the look of the street. The one to watch is a new extractor or soil vent that has to go through a front or side elevation, and any listed building, where consent can be needed for internal work too. New Lanark is a World Heritage Site and has tighter rules again. Speak to South Lanarkshire Council's planning team before ordering, and we will supply whatever product information an application needs.
Three to six days for most Lanark bathrooms, counted from the morning the old suite comes out. A straightforward swap in a town terrace finishes at the short end. Moving the soil stack, taking up a boarded floor in an older property or running new wiring pushes it towards six. You get the running order for each day before anything is removed, and the room is left usable overnight wherever it can be.
It changes the survey, not the bathroom. A private supply often runs at a lower and less steady pressure than mains, which matters most for a large rainfall shower head. The designer checks the flow while they are out and tells you plainly what the supply will carry. Where it will not carry a shower you want, a pump or a different head solves it, and that goes on the quote rather than turning up as a surprise on fitting week.
We check that on the survey rather than on delivery day. Narrow stairs and tight half-landings are normal in the older terraces off the High Street, and they rule out some baths and shower trays on size alone. The designer measures the route in as well as the room, then picks from what will genuinely go up. It is a five-minute job at survey and it saves a wasted morning later.
The vans need to be near the door for a strip-out, so we sort that before the first morning. Where there is a drive or a lane behind, we use it. Where there is not, we work with the parking on the street and keep the van moving so nobody is blocked in. Old suites, rubble and packaging leave with us; nothing is left sitting at the kerb waiting on a uplift.
Yes. Finance is available from £22 a week, subject to status, and the designer can put the monthly figure beside the layout while you are still sitting at the table, so you are comparing the room and the payment at the same time. Various deposit options are available.
Renfrew is the usual one, inside Dobbies Garden Centre at Braehead, 75 Kings Inch Drive, G51 4FB, straight along the A72 and the M8 with free parking at the door. Kilmarnock, at Block 5, Unit 1 Glencairn Industrial Estate, KA1 4AZ, is the better run if you are coming from the Douglas side. Braehead opens 10am to 5pm every day, Kilmarnock Monday to Saturday with Sunday by appointment. Neither trip is compulsory, because the designer brings panels, tiles and tap finishes to you.
The whole of ML11, which takes in Lanark, New Lanark, Kirkfieldbank, Cleghorn, Ravenstruther, Nemphlar, Carstairs, Carstairs Junction, Braidwood, Crossford, Lesmahagow, Blackwood and Kirkmuirhill. ML12 around Biggar and ML8 around Carluke are covered as well. No call-out fee applies anywhere in them.
